While many people lives with the Oscar award expectations, others (who generally had lost any interest about the Oscar due to its poor credibility and reliability) look forward other very prestigious award ceremony called The Razzie Awards. While Razzie might not be as glamorous or spectacular as The Oscar, it had won the respect of lots who consider they are more accurate than the so called “academy award”.
And sure, movies at The Oscar aren’t exactly the deepest or the most complete… but they are the ones who won the attention of people around the world. This attention withdraws the element of quality of the pictures for the people who are more into festival like Cannes. Nevertheless the Oscar’s importance can’t be denied in terms or the industry economy, which at the end, also supports a lot of the productions who aren’t take into consideration in this blockbuster event.
So, getting into the topic, this year the Oscar isn’t exactly the best of its long running history. While folks might deceived by the long list of nominees for Best Picture (10 in total which had only happened twice) the length of the list only shows how poor productions were this year.
BEST PICTURE
- Avatar
- The Blind Side
- District 9
- An Education
- The Hurt Locker
- Inglourious Basterds
- Precious
- A Serious Man
- Up
- Up in the Air
Ok now you might be thinking I’m crazy, while probably that’s true, if you love movies and you like to catch up with the opinion of professional critics, and audience opinion, you will sure be aware that half of this list has appeared in lists entitled as overrated movies or WTF-Orly?
One of the hardest, yet accurate critics to the Oscar is the low impact the movies which won Best picture have to the future of the cinema. A lot of awarding highly acclaimed movies from the Oscar hasn’t reflected that impact in future productions. One clear example is the Citizen Cane who had lots of nominations and critics acclaim like a master piece (if not the greatest movie ever made-sight-) wasn’t an inspiration to anything but parodies or poor remakes; leading to the obvious first FAIL of this lackluster –Best Picture-List.
Ok, first I’m a huge Fan of Tarantino, Really, I love his movies, Pulp fiction is easily on my top 5 of movies, but, Inglourious Basterds… opinions might be divided, on the one hand there’s the people who leave the cinema thinking… well it wasn’t that bad… on the other the people who said it WTF? What’s this S%&$? And don’t get me wrong, it is not a bad movie, it just different at what you might expect either if you are a fan of Tarantino or you just love a good movie. This movie is like the odd Citizen Cane version made by Gibson and Simpson, it’s just not right. Sure, movies are not educational, fiction is all around, but that twisted world created around and already hollow period of human history… well opinions might not suffice, today is preemptive to establish a discussion, but in few years people will do.
Avatar which, if nothing weird happens, will be the second fiction movie which won the most desirable award of the night. Being the most profitable and probably watched movie of all the time it’s a big plus. Let’s just hope gossip does not prevail, because some sources say a trilogy will emerge from this one.
Overall the lists might look dazzling if you are not into the movies world, but we leave any opinion to your own consideration.
Here the full Oscar Nominees List
Let’s express our opinion about this one, later we will comment on the Razzie list which is as interesting as this one.
